Badminton: Chance blown for Shirley and Quay

Daniel Shirley and Joanne Quay (Malaysia) lost to Singapore's Hendry Suputra and Yu Jia Li in the semifinals of a two-star US$50,000 ($77,065) Bitburger Open badminton tournament in Germany.

Shirley and Li won the first game and despite being down 11-16 in the second, fought back to hold match-point 21-20 but could not finish it out, losing 21-23.

The Singaporeans always held the upper hand in the third game to take out the match.

Shirley and Quay now head to Denmark where they will compete in the five-star US$170,000 Danish Open from today until Saturday.
