A successful betting plunge on Gold Coast defender Nathan Bock to kick the first goal against Hawthorn is likely to be investigated by the AFL.

The Herald Sun says Bock started in the forward line for the first time this season on Saturday and was backed in from AUS$101 to AUS$21 pre-match, which raised suspicions at TAB Sportsbet.

A TAB spokesman said the big odds fluctuations for Bock kicking the first goal, which he did, would mean he was backed to win as much as AUS$20,000.

The News Ltd paper said there are claims that confidential Suns selection information was leaked.

"Obviously somebody knew he was going to play up forward,'' a TAB bookmaker said.

This latest AFL betting drama comes in the wake of a wagering scandal involving Essendon assistant coach Dean Wallis.

The former Bombers premiership defender is facing suspension if it is proved he bet on an AFL game, which would contravene the league's strict anti-betting regulations.

There are reports that Wallis placed a $200 bet for a friend and that the wager did not involve an Essendon game.
