A team of Australian footballers in town for the Masters Games put traditional trans-Tasman rivalries aside for the morning saying they felt incredibly connected to New Zealand.
Justine Martin said her Avoca Beach team always intended to come to the dawn service but wasn't prepared for how beautiful and moving it would be, especially when both national anthems were sung.
"It was connecting us," she said.
