Runners who like rugby are going to have to make a tough choice between the two, after a clash between the Auckland Marathon and Rugby World Cup final has gone unresolved.
Both events are scheduled for the early hours of November 1, meaning those who complete the full 42km race will be running while the game is on.
The ASB Auckland Marathon Event Team said today it had put "much effort into exploring various alternatives with the associated authorities".
However, "they were unable to support these due to the impact on traffic levels, particularly on the Auckland Harbour Bridge".
The Herald understands very few dates were available to organisers - the weekend after is the V8 Supercars at Pukekohe, for example.
