PRAGUE (AP) World hurdles champion Zuzana Hejnova was chosen as the Czech Republic athlete of the year on Saturday.
Hejnova won the women's 400 hurdles at the world championships in Moscow in a world-leading 52.83 seconds, and topped a poll of Czech track and field coaches, officials and journalists.
World javelin champion Vitezslav Vesely was second.
Hejnova was unbeaten this season, including Diamond League races, and is among the three female finalists for the IAAF world athlete of the year award.
Triple sprint world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica and world shot put champ Valerie Adams of New Zealand are the other two. The winner will be announced next Saturday.
