Kiwi shot putter Tom Walsh has set a new New Zealand residents record at his home event in Timaru.
The reigning outdoors and indoor world champion has thrown 22.06 metres on his second attempt to win the meet which featured a number of Commonwealth Games contenders.
The distance was well off Walsh's personal best and national record of 22.31 metres, with the Kiwi seeing off strong competition from Canadian Tim Nedow and Australia's Damien Birkinhead.
Canada's Brittany Crew won the women's event.
The next meet is the Big Shot event in Christchurch on Friday.
