KEY POINTS:
A record number of people entered this morning's adidas Auckland Marathon which saw a stream of runners and walkers wend their way from Devonport to Mission Bay before heading back to Victoria Park in downtown Auckland.
Ben Ruthe was the first man home, completing the 42km in a time of two hours, 28 minutes and 11 seconds.
Steven O'Callaghan took second place and Grant McLean rounded out the top three.
Ady Ngawati was the first woman to finish, in a time of two hours, 46 minutes and 47 seconds, making her the only female placed in the top 20 finishers.
Dale Warrander won the half marathon in one hour, seven minutes and 35 seconds and Sarah Christie was the first woman to complete the 21km run in a time of one hour, 20 minutes and 53 seconds.
