Seatter appointed Athletics NZ selection convenor

Former Commonwealth Games walker and New Zealand Football chief executive Graham Seatter has been appointed to the new position of black singlet convenor with Athletics New Zealand.

The role is a part-time one and, among his duties, Seatter will head the selection panel for all black singlet events, which include the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, world championships at senior, junior and youth levels and the world indoor championships.

A pool of selectors with specific knowledge used to select different teams will be created.

Seatter is well know in the New Zealand sports fraternity.

He won eight New Zealand walking titles, three English titles and set 10 New Zealand records and competed at the 1978 and 1986 Commonwealth Games.

He was also the team manager of three New Zealand teams at race walking world cups and was distance coach for the 1995 world track and field championships, 1996 Olympic Games and 1998 Commonwealth Games. He coached two Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games representatives (including two medallists) and coached athletes to more than 70 New Zealand titles.

Seatter is chief executive at the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuits Centre and previously held roles with the New Zealand Academy of Sport, Lion Breweries and Lion Nathan and New Zealand Football.
