NEW YORK (AP) The New York City Marathon's security budget has doubled to about $1 million after the bombings at this year's race in Boston.
Sunday's event comes after last year's marathon was called off because of damage from Superstorm Sandy. Organizer New York Road Runners had a deficit of about $4 million in 2012 because of the cancellation. Insurance didn't cover all the costs because NYRR decided to offer the option of a refund to runners, many of whom had already traveled to New York before the announcement.
Entrants will be given a ribbon they can wear Sunday to honor the Boston victims.
