Decorated ultra marathon runner Anton Krupicka will add a touch of quality to the Tarawera ultra marathon near Rotorua this weekend.
The American, who has won multiple events in the US, is one of the most recognisable runners in his sport with his long hair and beard and the fact he often runs without a shirt.
Despite carrying an injury, Krupicka is running the toughest leg of the course as part of the New Balance relay team.
The Tarawera ultra marathon endurance race has the strongest line-up in its four-year history and takes place over 100km of rolling terrain around the lakes between Rotorua and Kawerau. There are 60km, 85km and 100km distance options for solo runners and relay teams compete over the 85km course.
More than 12 countries, including England, Japan, Canada and Australia, are sending their elite athletes to challenge race favourite Krupicka.
