Four die in British running race
LONDON - Four men died while competing in the Great North Run in Newcastle, northern England, on Sunday, police said.
Local media reported that the deaths were not related to each other.
Some 50,000 people entered the run which took place in warm and dry conditions in Newcastle. A police spokesman said there was no criminal link to the deaths.
"In today's Great North Run, four male participants died. No further details will be released at this time," the police spokesman said.
The 21kms course runs from Newcastle, across the Tyne bridge to Gateshead and on to South Shields.
