ROME (AP) The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping prosecutor has requested a 2 1/2-year ban for long-distance runner Devis Licciardi, who allegedly attempted to dodge a drugs test using a fake penis.
Prosecutor Tammaro Maiello also requested a two-year ban from all sports events in Italy for Sara Malpetti, Licciardi's girlfriend, who allegedly helped him.
The case will now be decided by CONI's anti-doping court.
The incident allegedly occurred while Licciardi was giving a sample following the national 10-kilometer championship in Molfetta on Sept. 21, when he was discovered trying to siphon off clean urine hidden in a fake penis.
The 27-year-old Licciardi runs for the Italian Air Force team.
