KEY POINTS:
New Zealand athlete Nick Willis showed he is on the fast track ahead of the Olympic Games in August when posting a personal best time over the mile in the United States today.
The 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist shaved more than two seconds off his best mile time when finishing second at the Prefontaine Classic grand prix meeting in Eugene, Oregon.
Willis was timed at three minutes 50.66 seconds, bettering his previous best of 3min 52.75sec set in Wanganui in 2006.
The race was won by Kenya's Shedrack Kibet Korir in 3min 50.49sec.
Korir last year won the 1500m bronze medal at the world championships in Japan.
Another top ranked Kenyan, Daniel Kipchirchir Komen, was third in 3min 50.93sec.
