KEY POINTS:
New Zealand triathlete James Elvery overcame a punishing travel schedule to finish fourth in the American Continental Cup race in Chile.
Elvery awoke in Vina Del Mar early on the morning of the race wide-eyed and jet-lagged after a three-day journey that took him from Sydney, Bangkok, Dubai, Sao Paulo and, eventually, Santiago.
The race was won by Juraci Moriera, of Brazil, followed by Leonardo Chacon, of Costa Rica, and American Manuel Huerta.
