Athletics: Top athletes pull out

Top contenders Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands and Patrick Makau of Kenya have withdrawn from the NYC half-marathon because of knee injuries.

Kiplagat's injury has kept her from racing since March. Makau has tendinitis in his right knee.
