One of the greatest moments in New Zealand's athletics history is set to be smashed, with confirmation Galen Rupp will compete at this month's international track meet.
American distance runner Rupp has been confirmed for the 10,000 metres, and with a best time of 27 minutes 10.74 seconds, could smash Dick Tayler's 37-year all comers record.
Organiser of the Christchurch event, Leighton Tremain, says that's what they're planning for.
He says they're over the moon to have Rupp there and they're hoping he breaks the record.
Tremain says Tayler will be involved in the meet.
