KEY POINTS:
Barry Cossar of Auckland who provided the perfect pacemaking for Peter Snell's world mile record in Wanganui in January 1962 has died.
Cossar, aged 73, took Snell through the half mile in exactly two minutes setting Snell up for the historic world record of 3m 54.4s.
Snell paid tribute at the time for the tremendous job that Cossar did in helping him to the world record.
