Valerie Adams has reacted to news the future of shotput at the Olympics could be under threat, when the IOC shakes up its sport programmes.
While any changes would be many years away and Adams long retired, the double Olympic gold medalist says it would a shame to see the rich tradition of the sport excluded in the future.
Adams says it's important to not forgot your roots and shotput is steeped in strong and original Olympic competitions.
Respected Australian athletics administrator Brian Roe has told The Age that there are questions over the future of shot put, the 200 metres, 10,000 metres, one of the men's walking races and the triple jump.
