KEY POINTS:
New Zealand walker Tony Sargisson failed to finish the 50km walk at the world athletics championships in Osaka today, pulling out at the 32km mark.
The Melbourne Commonwealth Games silver medallist was last position at 5km, improved to 41st at 10km and was up to 38th at 15km.
After receiving a caution Sargisson took a turn for the worse at 18km, dropping to last at 25km.
He picked up a further caution, and after passing the 30km mark in two hours 33 minutes 27 seconds, decided to call it a day.
Sargisson, the New Zealand team captain, said that he just didn't feel right.
"The wheels just started falling off, I started getting cramps in my stomach and I decided to take it easy for three or four kilometres, just to see how it felt.
"I took it easy and just never really recovered from it," Sargisson said.
The race was won by Australian Nathan Deakes in 3hr 43min 53sec, 29 seconds ahead of Yohan Diniz of France with a further 16 seconds to Alex Schwazer of Italy.
