A nasty nosebleed didn't stop Belarus runner Volha Mazuronak from claiming gold in the
marathon at the European Championships in Berlin overnight.
The 29-year-old won in a time of two hours 26.22 minutes on the streets of Berlin. The nosebleed struck early in the race but she was able to stem the bleeding before almost going the wrong way in the final stages of the event.
Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe told the BBC: "It's very unusual, I don't think I've ever seen it, especially in the early stages of a marathon."
Mazuronak was eventually able to clean her face up from the blood before finishing ahead of Clemence Calvin from France and the Czech Republic's Eva Vrabcova Nyvltova.
