Angie Petty's heading into the next stage of Olympic preparation, ahead of the curve.
The New Zealand middle distance runner will fly out to Europe tomorrow for a large training block as well as competing in a number of events in the build up to Rio.
Petty's had three months of training in New Zealand, but also spent a few days racing in Japan in which she produced a seasons best of two minutes 01.70 seconds in the 800 metres.
She says it was an unexpected, but welcome result.
Petty says she doesn't usually hit her best during the New Zealand and Australian seasons, but now gives her a lot more time to focus on going under two minute before Rio.
