Kenyan runner David Rudisha has suffered his first ever defeat in the senior ranks.
The Olympic 800m champion was shocked in the Kenyan trials, losing at home to 25-year-old Ferguson Rotich.
Rudisha, 26, is the world record holder over 800m but was outpaced by the late bloomer Rotich, who ran a 1:43.60 to take down the heavy favourite.
Despite the loss, Rudisha's second-placed finish was still enough to make the Kenyan team for the World Championships in Beijing later this month, alongside Rotich.
Rudisha put the loss down to a lack of fitness.
