FRANCE

IAAF Diamond League, Meeting de Paris, Stade de France - 27 August 2016

Tom Walsh beat the Rio Olympic Games gold medallist in setting a New Zealand national and Oceania shot put record of 22.00m. Olympic champion Ryan Crouser was second with 21.99m, and American compatriots Kurt Roberts was third with 20.78m and Ryan Whiting, who holds the New Zealand allcomers record of 21.27m, fourth with 20.65m. Crouser led after round three with his 21.99m effort and Walsh pipped him by the one centimetre in the final round. Walshs series was 21.14, 21.81 PB and NZ record, x, 21.12, 20.93, 22.00 PB and NZ record. He improved on his national record of 21.78m set in winning the world indoor title in Portland Oregon in March. Walsh also set a meet record breaking three times world champion Werner Gnthr of Switzerland distance of 21.53m set in July 1992.

"I knew I was in good shape, but I didnt really expect to throw so far," Walsh said. "After Rio I had something to prove. The stadium, the fans, everything was perfect tonight. A great meeting."

Walsh who has competed in five Diamond League meetings, leads the competition with 38 points, four better than Joe Kovacs who has done four events.

At the same meeting Ruth Jebet of Bahrain cut six seconds off the world record in the 3000m steeplechase with a run of 8:52.78.

POLAND

Skolimowska Memorial Meeting, Warsaw - 28 August 2016

Tom Walsh again made his last round attempt count in winning the shot put competition with a throw of 21.48m. Polish double Olympic champion Tamasz Majewski was having his last competition and led from round two with a seasons best 21.08m, only to have Walsh eclipse this by 40cm in round six. Walshs series was 20.92, x, x, x, x, 21.48.

At the same meeting Polish Rio Olympic Games gold medallist Anita Wlodarczyk extended her world record in the hammer throw to 82.98m. Her previous mark of 82.29m was set in Rio.

SWITZERLAND

IAAF Diamond League, Athletissima, Stade Pierre de Coubertin Lausanne - 25 August 2016

Two weeks after being beaten out of an Olympic gold medal by Michelle Carter, shot putter Valerie Adams claimed victory over the American. The Rio silver medallist won with a last round throw of 19.94m and she also had a better throw in round two of 19.83m than Carters 19.49m in round four. Christina Schwanitz of Germany the world champion in Beijing last year was third with 19.33m. Adams series was 18.98, 19.83, 19.09, 19.31, 19.48, 19.94. The two times Olympic champion holds the meet of 20.95m set in 2012.

"Today was a bit hot but I'm happy with my results," Adams said. "The aim of the game now is to win, and, especially after the Olympics, my intention is to win all my remaining meets until the end of the season. So 19.94 and a win, I'm happy with that."

Adams leads the Diamond League race in the shot put with 46 points and only needs to compete at the final meeting in Brussels on 9 September to win the womens shot put Diamond League. Tia Brooks of USA and Anita Mrton of Hungary are both on 25 points.

40th Anniversary Throwers Cup Coupe Des Lancers Meeting, Mont-Dore - 27 August 2016

In far from perfect conditions, with heavy rain falling throughout the competition, Anthony Nobilo posted a personal best 5kg hammer throw of 64.03m, adding a metre to his previous best on the North Shore two weeks ago. Nobilo also had a 1.5kg DT 39.20m. Nick Hailes 5kg SP 13.06m, 1.5kg DT 41.93m, 5kg HT 57.35m, 700g JT 38.30m. Anthony Barmes 1.5kg DT 34.55m PB, 5kg HT 50.29m. Mellata Tatola 3kg SP 14.35m, 1kg DT 37.55m, 3kg HT 52.33m. Connor Bell 4kg SP 16.03m PB, 1.2kg DT 44.64m, 4kg HT 48.40m, 600g JT 36.12m. James Sadlier 500g JT 32.87m PB, 3kg HT 34.05m. Jayden Williamson 3kg HT 44.92m, 1kg DT 36.46m.

New Zealand athletes en route to the Paralympics in Rio 7-18 September, competed: Anna Grimaldi T47 100m 13.13 (+0.5) (NZ record), LJ 5.20m (+1.8). Liam Malone T44 100m 11.17 (+1.4) (NZ record), 300m 34.08. William Stedman T36 200m 26.43 (0.0), 800m 2:13.73, LJ 4.95m (+1.9). Jacob Phillips T35 100m 14.40 (+0.4). Holly Robinson F46 JT 39.99m, Caitlin Dore F37 JT 19.63m, Rory McSweeney F44 JT 48.53m. Also competing in the JT Tori Peeters 48.87m.

Cambridge Half Marathon - 28 August 2016

Steve Rees-Jones won in 1:14:14 from John Mering 1:15:07, William Sinclair 1:17:55, Phil Murray 1:18:01 and John Caie 1:18:32. Alice Mason was the first woman in 1:20:34 from Johanna Ottosson 1:26:19, Jung Ching Lin (Taipei City) 1:29:10 and Michele Gunn 1:30:35. John Wesseling won the half marathon walk in 2:24:16 from Anne Day 2:30:47. Mathijs Wetzels won the 10km in 35:12 from Cameron Swales 35:35, Carl Fischer 35:41 and John Charlton 36:32. Marta Guasch from Spain won the womens 10km in 38:53 with Samantha Bradley second in 41:29 and Kirsten Milne third in 42:09. Bradley Cullen won the 5km in 16:32 from Rhys Mildon 16:44 and Michael Robinson 17:46. Charli Miller won the womens 5km in 18:06 from Olivia Ritchie 18:25 and Grace Ritchie 18:58.
