New Zealand decathlete Brent Newdick has surpassed the testing 8000-point mark for the first time, in placing sixth at an international meeting in the Czech Republic this morning (NZT).
Competing in the third round of the IAAF combined events challenge at Kladno, Newdick set personal bests on the second day in the 110m hurdles, javelin throw and 1500m, which helped him surge to a total of 8091 points.
Oleksiy Kasyanov of Ukraine won the event with a score of 8381.
Aucklander Newdick, 25, remains No 3 on the New Zealand all-time list.
Simon Poelman holds the New Zealand decathlon record with 8366 points, set in Christchurch in 1987 and next best is Douglas Pirini's 8115 scored in 1996.
Auckland's Scott McLaren finished 16th at Kladno with 7060 points.
In the heptathlon, North Shore's Sarah Cowley was 10th on 5575 points.
