Kiwi pole vaulter Eliza McCartney insists her troublesome Achilles tendon is recovering and her withdrawal from European meets is a precaution ahead of next month's world championships.
McCartney (20) has scratched from tonight's IAAF Diamond League event in London and will also miss another meet in Jockgrim, Germany this week, as she nurses the injury through her championship build-up.
"It hasn't got worse and it's definitely getting better," she confirmed from her German training base. "It's just a slow process and the nature of this type of injury.
"It's not something that can be fixed quickly in a couple of weeks - it's a long-term type thing."
"It's definitely progressing, but London came around too soon for me to be ready to actually go out and compete properly."
