Lornah Kiplagat, of the Netherlands, broke the world women's half-marathon record yesterday when she clocked 1h 6m 25s in a largely solo run at the world road running championships in Italy.
The defending champion shattered the previous mark of 1h 6m 44s set by South African Elana Meyer in 1999. Kenyans Mary Keitany and Pamela Chepchumba finished second and third, clocking 1h 6m 48s and 1h 8m 6s respectively.
