Javelin thrower Ben Langton Burnell is the latest Kiwi athlete to be added to the New Zealand team for the world championships in London next month.
The Waikato athlete, originally from Palmerston North, won the Oceania championships in Fiji three weeks ago and earlier last month threw a personal best 82.44m on his home track at Porritt Stadium.
That was just short of the 83.00m IAAF standard for the worlds but bettered the standard for nomination for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next year.
It will be Langton Burnell's first major international event, although he competed at the 2015 world university games in Korea, finishing 10th. After London he will go to Taiwan for this year's edition of the university games.
Ranked 24th in the world, he will leave for Cardiff next Wednesday where the New Zealand team is assembling for their final training camp ahead of the worlds, which start on August 4.
