Multiple New Zealand distance running record holder Kim Smith has announced her retirement from the sport.
The 35-year-old has quit due to a persistent foot injury.
Smith, who is four months pregnant with her second child, has made the decision after several seasons of below par performances.
She says since
undergoing foot surgery in 2014, her feet have never been the same and she can't do what she wants to in terms of training.
Smith says her body just can't handle it and she says in some ways to retire is a relief.
