Athletics: Karpov out of decathlon early

HELSINKI - Kazakhstan's Olympic bronze medallist Dmitry Karpov was disqualified from the opening event of the decathlon on the fourth day of the world championships yesterday.

Karpov's challenge in the 10-discipline event ended when he was responsible for two false starts in the 100m.

The 24-year-old also won bronze at the 2003 Paris world championships.
