The International Amateur Athletics Federation has advised organisers of athletics competitions not to run the javelin at the same time as other events inside the track.
AFP reports that the IAAF made the recommendations after French long jumper Salim Sdiri was speared in a freak accident last year.
He received kidney injuries as a result of the incident.
IAAF technical director Imre Matrahazi told the agency that the changes also concerned the hammer throw.
