Hamilton's Callum Harland won the national mountain running title near Wanaka in central Otago yesterday.
The 12.5km race from the Cardona Valley to the Wairua Snow Farm came down to a sprint finish, in which Harland held off Palmerston North's Kim Hogarth.
Harland recorded a time of 58 minutes 30 seconds.
The women's race, over a significantly shorter course, was won by Moana Burt, of Counties-Manukau, ahead of Shireen Crumpton, of Dunedin.
The junior men's race was won by Hayden McLaren, of Christchurch, and the junior girls' race was won by Sarah Morgan, of Matamata.
