The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) today recommended that Olympic sprint champion Justin Gatlin receive a maximum eight-year ban for doping.
Gatlin, 24, tested positive for testosterone at the Kansas Relays on April 22.
He had agreed to the accuracy of the laboratory test and had promised to co-operate in the effort to eradicate the use of drugs from sport, USADA said.
The joint 100m world record holder has the right to appeal the sanction to an arbitration panel.
