What was your first major setback?
That probably came earlier this year when I picked up an Achilles injury. My aim for 2016 was to make the Rio Olympic team but the injury coupled with the pressure and mental stress of trying to make the team was tough. It really hurt not to qualify for Rio, but when I take a step back I realise I learned a lot about myself, which was really valuable.
Best piece of coaching advice?
It would be to enjoy the sport and have fun. If the sport is fun then you are going to be prepared to put in the extra work to improve as an athlete.
What qualities do you think every athlete needs to succeed?
I would say determination, dedication and resilience. Athletics is a tough sport and to succeed and achieve your goals, it is important to knuckle down and be resilient.
What is the most important thing you have learned from your time in the sport?
I think after what I have experienced this year, it is to enjoy the journey more and be less focused on the outcome. The other big thing I've learned, is the importance of being consistent in training.
What is the best thing about being an athlete?
It is the lifestyle of an athlete. There is something really cool about training hard and being able to push your body to the limit and also being able to travel around the world to compete.
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?
Can I have two? A flying time traveller! I enjoy history and these superpowers would allow me to have a look at different periods of time.
What is your hidden talent?
I'm pretty skilled at making things, At the moment I'm landscaping my house. I'm pretty good at seeing a vision of something to help bring it to life.
What would be your last meal?
I'd have to say either a big breakfast with all the bells and whistles or a big burger.
What is your karaoke song?
Tribute by Tenacious D. It is real belter of a song, which gets people going.
What is your greatest indulgence?
I don't really have a sweet tooth but I enjoy fatty foods and probably something really bad for you like a big, fat greasy double cheeseburger.
If you could pick three dinner party guests, who would they be and why?
I would pick two-time Olympic 400m hurdles champion and former world record holder Ed Moses to learn more about the hurdles. Seth MacFarlane for his clever humour and impressions and Leonardo da Vinci to learn more from his knowledge and impressions.
