KEY POINTS:
New Zealand's Beatrice Faumuina made an inglorious early exit in the discus at the world athletics championships in Japan today.
The 1997 world champion was eliminated in the qualifying round in Osaka after registering a best throw of just 55.75m.
It was her only legal effort in three throws and left her well outside the qualifying standard of 61.50m.
She finished 13th of 14 competitors in the second qualifying group.
Faumuina had entered the championships with a season's best of 62.20m and a career best of 68.52m.
