KEY POINTS:
Christchurch's QEII Stadium has been given the go ahead to host an Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) accredited meeting next month.
Athletes from New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands will take part in the February 21, QEII Stadium event and in doing so will have an opportunity to secure IAAF points.
The stadium has recently undergone assessments to ensure it complies with IAAF standards.
Athletics New Zealand interim services manager Raylene Bates said having the IAAF accredited meeting was an attraction for Australian athletes.
"It will enhance the meeting and it is a huge advantage not having the cost of having to travel to Europe to gain points for the world athletic finals," she said.
Events include the 100m, 110m hurdles, 800m, 1500m, high jump, discus and 4 x 100m relay for men and 100m, 400m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and 4 x 100m relay for women.
