KEY POINTS:
Waterpolo New Zealand boss Scott Newman has been appointed chief executive of Athletics New Zealand (ANZ), its chairman Stephen Underwood said today.
Newman replaces Jeremy Kennerley, who resigned in August after two years in the job.
Newman was three-times national triple jump champion, and represented New Zealand at the 1990 Oceania championships.
He has worked in regional sports administration and at the Auckland-based Millennium Institute of Sport and Health.
He was coach education coordinator for ANZ from 1997 until 2001.
Underwood said ANZ was "very pleased" to have recruited Newman to lead athletics.
"We look forward to Scott's return to athletics and the professional skills he has honed in recent years," Underwood said.
Newman will take up the position in March 2007.
Former Canterbury Cricket chief executive Tony Murdoch will continue as acting general manager until then.
