Australian Greg Bennett, 35, defied age to claim the largest payday in triathlon history yesterday, collecting US$420,000 ($543,560) by winning the US Open to clean sweep a five-race series.
Bennett's record payout came from a US$60,000 prize for yesterday's win in Dallas, a US$60,000 bonus for being the Life Time Fitness triathlon series champion and a US$300,000 super bonus for winning each of the series' five events.
Countrywoman Emma Snowsill, who finished fourth in yesterday's event, also took home a US$60,000 bonus after winning the women's division of the series.
