Canterbury athlete Hannah Newbould claimed a New Zealand under-19 record over 1500m competing in the Victoria International Classic meeting in British Columbia, Canada.
Running at the venue used for the 1994 Commonwealth Games, Newbould took five seconds off her previous best over the distance in clocking four minutes 14.53 seconds. Rebecca Forlong set the previous mark in Dublin five years ago.
The performance puts her firmly in place to challenge for a medal at this month's world junior championships in Moncton, Canada.
