BERLIN (AP) Berlin will host the European Athletics Championships in 2018, becoming the third German city to stage the event in its 24th edition.
The European Athletics Council made the announcement at its summit in Zurich on Saturday following presentations from the German Athletics Federation and city of Berlin.
"They have impressed us today with a fantastic interactive presentation. We are convinced that Berlin 2018 will be a great event," EAC president Hansjoerg Wirz told the organization's website.
A total of 11 cities, including Paris and Rome, had started the bidding process but Berlin ended up as the sole bidder following the withdrawal over time of the other 10.
Stuttgart and Munich previously hosted the European Athletics Championships in 1986 and 2002, respectively.
