KEY POINTS:
New anti-doping regulations will require athletes to put aside an hour each day to be available for testing.
From the beginning of next year, 300 New Zealand athletes will be part of the testing regime run by Drug Free Sport New Zealand.
The agency's chief executive, Graeme Steel, said athletes will need to alert the testers of their whereabouts and put aside an hour each day to ensure the process is robust.
He said athletes are able to get illegal drugs out of their system "in a matter of a few hours".
"It means we know where athletes are in terms of a city or wherever and for a particular time of day, we know precisely where they are and actually that's not the optimum time to test them because no athlete is going to give a time where they think they may have evidence but at least we know generally where they are," Steel said.
He said athletes will be able to contact Drug Free Sport by email, phone or text message.
Steel said the All Blacks will be given an extra month before they have to meet the regulation as they have yet to get information on the new procedure.
