In a bid to fill seats at David Beckham's appearance with his LA Galaxy soccer team tomorrow, Auckland Regional Council is expanding a two-for-one deal to include fans who have already bought tickets.
The council said the aim was to "create an outstanding atmosphere and occasion on Saturday night".
Just 14,000 tickets had been sold for the Galaxy's match against the Oceania All Stars at Mt Smart Stadium, which has a capacity of around 25,000, prompting the two-for-one sale to boost numbers.
The promotion initially angered fans who had stumped up the full $85, so today ARC general manager parks Lance Vervoort said the offer would be expanded to include everyone who had bought tickets.
For every ticket fans show at the stadium, another will be offered (in the same seating area) free of charge.
Mr Vervoort said it was important those hoping to cash in arrived before 1pm as a large walk up crowd was expected.
