All Black lock Ali Williams asked to be drug tested because he feared his drink might have been spiked during a night out in Auckland.
His suspicions were provoked as injured teammate Angus Macdonald also felt unwell after the pair had been socialising during downtime between the opening Bledisloe Cup test in Christchurch and the next test in Wellington.
"They thought something might be amiss so Ali was checked out by the All Black staff and Angus by the Auckland officials," All Black manager Darren Shand said yesterday.
"Nothing turned up in their testing except the evidence of alcohol.
"They did the right thing ... and there is a lesson in there about being careful and telling someone about your concerns."
