MELBOURNE - A Victorian schoolgirl has claimed she is pregnant after having sex with two AFL St Kilda players.
The 16-year-old girl reportedly met the AFL stars at a high school football coaching clinic, and later reintroduced herself to them in Sydney following the club's round one match against the Swans on March 27.
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon gave few details at his weekly media conference on Wednesday morning, saying the club would make a formal statement once it had finished its investigation into the matter.
He also could not say how much longer the investigation would take.
Lyon confirmed the club became aware of the allegations on Tuesday.
"I can't go into too much detail, what I can confirm is two St Kilda players have spoken to the club and the AFL in relation to the incidents reported in the press," Lyon said.
"The investigation is ongoing and once that is concluded we will be able to make a formal statement.
"We are not into naming any players, the investigation is ongoing."
Lyon and club officials became increasingly agitated as the media persisted with questions about the allegations.
The Saints nearly shut down the media conference before the topic turned to football related matters.
Lyon is confident that the allegations will not distract his team ahead of this weekend's match against Adelaide.
"We certainly don't like any distractions, we like to prepare physically and mentally for our upcoming opposition and we still do that," Lyon said.
"Obviously it will take a strong group to stay focused but we feel we are that, that is our aim."
Victoria's Department of Education confirmed on Wednesday that the student - who is completing her Victorian Certificate of Education - has sought support from her high school.
A spokesman said the student has requested assistance from her outer suburban high school for help with classes during the pregnancy.
The school has responded with offers of counselling and study help, he said.
A spokesman for the AFL said the league was made aware of the matter on Tuesday and would not comment further while it sought further details.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police knew about the matter but no official complaint had been made.
