Gearbox problems have put paid to Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan's hopes of building on his hot A1 form.
A tough day at Taupo took its toll on the young driver, with a mystery gearbox fault destroying any chances of Karthikeyan getting good grid position for tomorrow's racing.
He has qualified 20th for the early sprint race, and a weak 18th for the main event.
"We've had a lot of issues with the gearbox," he said after qualifying this afternoon.
"I think we had a car to get into the top 10."
