We're generally a good lot in New Zealand, being trusting and willing to help our neighbours out. But that good nature counts against us online, with more New Zealanders being scammed out of their hard-earned money than ever before. In fact, the various hacks, cracks and stings resulted in personal losses of more than $33 million (source: Netsafe) last year— three times as much as in 2017.
That's why Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) has developed a suite of online tools to help New Zealanders get scam savvy.
Properly equipped with the right information and a sharp eye for the tricks and techniques scammers use, your chances of becoming a victim are greatly reduced. It's not just for BNZ customers, either – everyone should try the Scam Savvy Mobile quiz, and see whether they can beat 'Sam the Scammer' in Scam Savvy Intro. The online tools will help you learn how to stay safer online, and it's just one more way that you can be good with your money.
Take the quiz here to test how 'scam savvy' you are.
