Thanks to cloud based working and a shift to mobile devices, the anything-as-a-service (XaaS) model is transforming the way the New Zealand Government and businesses are working.
As-a-service for better ways of working
As-a-service delivers software, infrastructure, platform and telecommunications in a single package. As a result, businesses get theconnectivity and communications they need, without having to maintain them on-site. It's about buying business outcomes, not software - and that can mean real benefits.
Vodafone Enterprise Director Ken Tunnicliffe explains. "As-a-service streamlines deployment of new software and reduces customer acquisition costs while allowing a company to scale as fast and as much as needed - without investing in additional infrastructure or employing more IT people.
It can also help offload management of non-mission-critical applications such as HR and CRM. And subscription-based pricing means predictable costs." IT people nervous about the shift, can rest reassured that anything-as-a-service will actually cut time spent on humdrum administrative tasks so they can be free to explore bigger picture possibilities.
Vodafone NZ is working with the New Zealand Government to help their agencies better connect their people, places and things. Ken clarifies some of the benefits. "If a new policy requires collaboration across multiple agencies, now people from all agencies can work from one site with full access to the network and the required systems," he says.
And streamlining work for agency staff is not the only upside. "From a customer perspective the Government looks like one organisation and can be more efficient and agile."
Far from being intimidated about the shift to a new way of working, businesses should welcome the opportunities that as-a-service presents.
