Bachelor of Engineering with Honours student Lucy French is extending her software engineering knowledge to others by creating an iPhone application for leading software testing consultancy, Planit Software Testing.
The application will be used as an interactive teaching aid to assist Planit in teaching Agile 101 to its staff.
Agile is a project management movement that ensures companies are better equipped to deal with changes in the software development process.
"Planit's Agile 101 course previously had no mobile application to support the teaching and evaluate students' understanding -so for my Honours year project I have designed an app that will improve users' learning experiences and encourage retention of the course content," says Lucy.
Throughout her degree Lucy, who is majoring in Software Engineering, discovered how to build software the right way, and learnt the principles of usability engineering, human-computer interaction, database design and Agile development methods.
As she applies this knowledge to creating the Agile 101 Planit app, Lucy says she loves being able to help others by creating an educational tool, while honing her own software-building skills, such as learning how to build iOS apps and develop for a mobile platform.
"This project is a great opportunity to showcase the skills I've developed throughout my degree, learn about educational theory and practise building educational software."
"I'm constantly learning through the process -the challenge from Planit, and my experience at Victoria, has set me up for an exciting career in technology consultancy."
