The Colliers International Hawke's Bay team have recently been awarded the prestigious New Zealand Franchise of the year at the Colliers Franchise of the Year Awards, achieving record results in both the commercial and rural and agribusiness divisions for 2017.
It is the first time that the Hawke's Bay office has been given the award out of 19 Colliers International offices around the country. The award is based on growth in property prices for the region, yields achieved and company fee growth from the previous year.
Colliers Hawke's Bay Managing Director Cam Ward, says that it is a testament to the experienced, market leading teams within both the commercial and rural divisions of the brand as well the incredible buoyancy of the Hawke's Bay economy which has attracted significant interest from investors, that has seen the Hawke's Bay office take out the competitive title this year.
"Our regional economy is on a roll, which is being reflected in all aspects of the real estate market – from residential to commercial to rural. Our strong pip fruit and export sectors, are helping to fuel a surging economy and this combined with record migration rates as people increasingly re-locate from the larger cities, is seeing a renewed confidence in the commercial and industrial sectors.
"Many investors are choosing Hawke's Bay above other regions to invest in and we are also seeing a rise in owner- occupiers with local businesses doing well off the back of the positive economy."
The Colliers Hawke's Bay team have recently had their biggest month in the history of the business, selling over $30 million of property in March and almost doubling the dollar figure of their last record month in 2016. This included a large land sale with plans for a waterfront hotel, as developers look to cater for the growing regional tourism market.
Mr Ward says that the Colliers team has grown from strength to strength in recent years with a perfect mixture of young blood and experienced brokers. The Napier team, led by Reuben George consists of commercial broker Dan Walker, Peter Chrisp who has recently joined the team from the Wellington commercial market and industrial specialist Rob Nankervis. Top grossing broker, Danny Blair works out of the Colliers Havelock North office alongside industry veterans Ian McLachlan and Kerry Harford. Between them, the team continues to hold the majority of the commercial real estate market in Hawke's Bay and look forward to holding their weight amongst the big Auckland and Wellington city franchises to retain the award for 2018.
