The Claytons, who purchased the A1 Homes Tauranga franchise last October, have been owners of the A1 Homes Canterbury franchise since 2003. That franchise withstood the Christchurch earthquakes – still operating successfully under the Claytons' watch today.

Mr Clayton says exciting developments include the implementation of their current rigorous systems into the Tauranga franchise, and the pending construction of a larger-style show home in Papamoa's Golden Sands sub-division.

"We provide a wonderfully practical and comfortable alternative with our homes. We offer kit alternatives where our customers purchase the materials needed to construct a house from our plans, and they contract the builders and subcontractors themselves.

"Lots of our customers like to run the build themselves. That way they can save themselves thousands of dollars," Mr Clayton says.

He says the cost of an A1Homes kit is very reasonable.

"A kit contains everything, from the framing timber, roofing iron, cladding, through to kitchen appliances, such as dishwashers, wall ovens and hobs, bathroom ware and laundry tubs. It's a very cost-effective option to home building," says Mr Clayton.

The alternative offering from A1Homes is its A1 Built option.

"This is where we handle the full build.

"We believe building a new home should be a rewarding experience. So when we are given charge of the build, we walk our customers through the journey, step by step, so they are aware of every part of their build, every part of the way," he says.

Once a customer finds a preferred building site, it's advisable to then visit the nearest A1 Homes show home. Tauranga's is located 2 Ellesmere Close, The Lakes, Pyes Pa.
