After all the family have left home, Margaret and Tom Eades are finally getting the master suite they dreamed of in their busy family days. It's a recent addition to the classic 1940s house they bought in Campbell Road, Greenlane (featured in Heraldhomes on September 3).
"After six years in our Ellerslie house, we'd hunted and hunted for a house with more living space," says Margaret. "For Tom's 60th birthday it was such a tight fit for 20 people. We like to entertain and wanted more space."
Their agent, Kim Rule, had been showing them modern properties, but when she suggested an older house they were prepared to look. One drive-by and Margaret knew, even before she stepped inside, that she could fall in love with this two storied house opposite Cornwall Park.
The couple loved the outdoor flow from the modern kitchen and family room, envisaging plenty of room for parties. Both Tom and Margaret enjoy cooking, so are delighted with the open sunny kitchen. The garden, down to their favourite wisteria, fits the bill for entertaining.
The polished wood floor of the entrance hall perfectly accommodates Margaret's great-grandfather's sideboard. Tom is a runner, and has always loved One Tree Hill, so can't believe his luck at being able to climb a stile to be running in his favourite park. A bonus is the enormous storage space in the garage.
With easy commutes to their businesses in Remuera and Three Kings, Margaret and Ron expect to stay in the house for a good many years.
